Update/ Career Things

Hey everyone! I realized when I was going through my posts that I haven't done an update or a post about my experience with breaking into the music industry in a while.

So to start out with a quick update, I've been so busy lately that I honestly have barely had time to breathe, let alone contact more bands for interviews, but I'll be sending out some more interview requests this week. I'm also going to start doing mini-features once a week along with the bigger feature once a month. I hate that all I'm ever putting out is a song of the day, so that will give out something better each week.

As for career progress and experience, I'll start out with listing everything I'm involved in, and then go from there.

--Fearless Records Street Team

--XL Recordings Intern

--Caring Music Group Intern

--The Syndicate (Marketing/Street Promotions)

--Open Our Eyes (Music Blogger and Social Media Coordinator)

--2 new projects that I cannot reveal yet!

So to begin with, if you've been here a while (or even just since last week), you will notice that something is missing from this list. I am no longer a part of my college radio station. We had a difference in opinion on the direction the station was headed, and I decided that there were plenty of other things that I could focus my time on. It actually works out, since the new projects that I can't talk about yet are going to take up tons of time, and that just freed up 10 hours a week, easily.

I've been sort of lax about my Fearless involvement the last month while I adjusted back to college life (I'm taking 2 semesters worth of credits right now), and it's been crazy. This week, I've started getting back into missions, and I forgot how much I really loved doing everything. I'm thinking of moving out to California next year at some point, so I'm keeping Fearless on my radar for possible internships and opportunities.

For XL, I've actually been learning a lot about networking. In school, they teach you 'how to network' but I've never really had to get out there and do it until now. For that internship, I'm basically building a little marketing plan for my city in order to promote their bands, so I've had to establish relationships with record shop and coffee shop owners so that I can hang things up and get the word out. The first few were a bit hard, but I've really grown into it I think. The skills I'm picking up along with the connections I'm making are only going to help me down the road, so I'm really excited. I can actually say the same about my involvement with the Syndicate. Those two positions are very similar.

For the Caring Music Group, I've been doing a lot of writing, which is different from Fearless, the Syndicate and XL. I'm mostly writing articles and maintaining some of the online content, so this one is pretty simple to keep up on.

Open Our Eyes is probably the most time-consuming thing I'm involved in, but it's also something I really believe in. I write one article a month, along with sending in songs for a weekly playlist. This past week, I was also signed on as their social media coordinator, so as if I didn't spend enough time online, I now basically live on the internet. I'm going to link all of their social media at the bottom, and if you'd like to follow, that would be lovely!

As for the new projects, they are both local, but they have some huge potential. One of them should be launched next week, so I'm going to be posting about it A LOT after that. Stay tuned. :)

As always at the end of an update: If anyone is interested in contributing to this blog about their own city's music scene or if you want to write a feature about a local band in your town, email me! Send your email to lizwmcc@gmail.com with the subject line 'ShuffleBeatMusic' with your pitch and I'll get back to you ASAP! I check my email about once an hour, so I'll get back to you pretty fast. I'd love to hear about other music scenes and I'm always looking for new music.
