Hi, everybody. This review is about one of my favorite bands of all time, Motionless In White, and I'm so excited to finally be sharing my views about this album. Reincarnate came out in September, and ever since, it has been one of the best albums I've heard. This album is the perfect mixture of Motionless In White's first and second album (Creatures and Infamous) while still being an evolution from them, and as Motionless In White puts it, they've finally found the sound they've been trying to find since their first album. This album not only has great lyrical content, but an amazing atmosphere to it. Also, it has an assortment of guest vocals, such as vocalist Maria Brink of In This Moment, and Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth, just to name a few. This album is by far the best work Motionless In White has released so far, and that's saying something since I loved the first two albums so much. Overall, this album is one album I simply can't live without, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen.
Track List & Comments
Death March- As always, bands definitely know what to pick for an intro track, and Motionless In White is no different. This song is great, and gets listeners pumped for the rest of the album with it’s beat, and interesting lyrics that remind me of preparing for a battle. Chris’ vocals make this track what it is, especially since they don’t sound much like his vocals from the previous albums, and this song definitely pulled me into this album.
Reincarnate- As you can probably tell, this is the title track, and also the first single to be released for this album. Being the first song I heard from them, I’m rather sick of it to be honest. But, I still admire the amazing talent and thought that went into this song. It’s uplifting, powerful, and a good song if you need to channel your anger.
Puppets 3 (The Grand Finale) feat. Dani Filth- This song was the second single from this album, and I happen to love this song. Dani Filth’s vocals make this song unlike any Motionless In White song to date, and it’s definitely a beautiful song, with lyrics about finally cutting someone out for good.
Unstoppable- This song is another great song. It gets stuck in your head, and I love it. It’s uplifting, and a great headbanger if you just wanna jam out in your room to something. So far, I love all the breakdowns (I think that’s what they’re called) in this album.
Everybody Sells Cocaine- This song is definitely one of my favorites. This cynical song has lyrics that capture your attention and poke fun at society, such as “starving for attention, you will say anything” and “if I take the pain away, you’ll come back for more someday”. Overall, I can’t properly describe how much I like this song.
Contemptress feat. Maria Brink- This song was one of the songs I was most excited about when I heard the previews for the album, and it’s become another one of my favorites. Maria Brink’s vocals on this are great, and I don’t think anyone else could have made this song better than it is. This song is about a toxic and destructive love, which makes it interesting to listen to. This song is a story in it’s own, and I can’t get enough of it. I really hope one day Maria performs this with Motionless In White live.
Break the Cycle- This song is a great track, and yet another headbanger. This song has a great beat, and the lyrics talk about trying to end a conflict with one’s own mind and self. It’s another one of those songs where the lyrics make the track. This song has it’s own music video, which sticks to the theme of fighting with your own mind, and everyone should check it out if you haven’t already.
Generation Lost- This song is another one of my favorites, hence my tumblr username, generationlxst. According to Chris, it started off as a song poking fun at the new generation of fans, but ended up being a completely different track from it’s original. This version talks about not giving up, and is an uplifting track overall.
Dark Passenger- This track is a song about the hit show Dexter, and it definitely does the show justice. This song tells an interesting story of someone’s downfall, and realizing you’re a monster. This song is a beautiful track, and fits nicely with the rest of the album.
Wasp- This song… well… if you’ve heard this song, you can most likely tell what it’s about, and that’s all I have to say other than that it’s one of my favorite tracks, and that you have to check it out for yourself.
Dead As Fuck- This song is yet another one of my favorites. It’s fun, and whenever I listen to it it’s like watching a movie in my head. This song is carefree, cute, and overall a very solid track.
Final Dictvm feat. Tim Skold- This song is very dark, which makes it interesting since it’s after Dead As Fuck. This song is hard to describe, and I think that’s what makes it so fun to listen to.
Carry The Torch- This song is a great finale to Reincarnate, and I don’t think they could have planned the track list any better. This song is about the future of the genre, and carrying the torch of past generations and bands. It also talks about the insincerity and fakeness of some bands, and leads us to question whether the new generation of bands is worthy to carry on with this genre.
