Review: North by Matchbox Twenty
Review by: Erin Robinson
A decade has passed since Matchbox Twenty released a studio album. This album took two years of writing and countless recording session to whittle down 60 plus ideas to 12. Some people think that this is not a good album but my goal here is to let you reach your own decision.
1. Parade (4:30) - The lyrics I like the most in this song are, "When the music is over but the song stays in your head." Reminds me very much of like going to a great concert and the music is over but songs remain and you hum them to your car.
2. She's So Mean (3:50) - Self title. Like most men do. they seem to pick a girl that is the meanest. Not just to them, but to others, too.
3. Overjoyed (3:03) - Looking and finding the one. Experiencing the feelings when you see her. She doesn't want to be with him, but he keeps trying and becomes overjoyed when he wins her heart.
4. Put Your Hands Up (2:52) - A party anthem song that Matchbox Twenty finally wrote. "Cause now you gonna show 'em what the night is really for and leave your heart out on the dance floor." Party all night long.
5. Our Song (3:00) - A twist on a girl and boy story. It's the story of a couple that doesn't mean to hurt each other but continues to do so.
6. I Will (4:03) - Looking back on your life, your loves and your losses. Your ups and downs and being there with the person that is going through this. To let them know you will be with them.
7.English Town (4:37) - Everyone wants to get away sometimes, either literally or mentally. Something pulls at you from within to just let it go and leave. What a nice place to leave your problems behind in a little English town.
8. How Long (2:44) - A question that a boy asks a girl: how long are you going to make me wait? How long do I try to win you?
9. Radio (3:02) - About a girl and boy living outside of American listening to the radio and hearing the songs that will play into their lives. She yearns to have a life somewhere beyond her country and the boy that doesn't give enough and never understands.
10. The Way (3:18) - "We had love, always thought it would be enough." It's not the way you want a relationship to turn out. You thought you had love but it wasn't enough to keep them there.
11. Like Sugar (3:46) - Wanting and not wanting someone at the same time. Someone that might be not good for you but they taste like sugar. They are like sweet candy you can't walk away from.
12. Sleeping At The Wheel (3:48) - Tell that person, the one you love, that you do, knowing that God has given you a second chance. Don't fall asleep behind the wheel, because one day you might not get a chance to say what's on your mind.
