J. Cole’s third studio album follows the sentiment of his previous works. J. Cole is from North Carolina and he graduated from St. John’s University in New York. His time in New York propelled his music career, after he was able to meet up with many recognizable artists. He has since signed with the Roc Nation music label, which is in partnership with Jay-Z. Overall, J. Cole’s music is reminiscent of other Roc-A-Fella artists, including Jay-Z and Kanye West.
The album is especially geared towards him finding out how to handle the fame while still remaining to stay grounded to what led him to his success. Throughout the album, he mentions many stories from his youth that led him to the point that he has made it to in his life. About halfway through the album, he raps about his breaking out period, where set his priorities and goals that ultimately became achievements. “Fire Squad” is my favorite; it details a time when he had to quiet his internal conflict and other distraction so that he can correctly go for his dreams. As a whole, the album is a well put together piece. It remains consistent in the message that is summarized in the song “Love Yourz”.
Here's a link to one of his videos from the album.
