Rixton is a fairly new band, originally from Manchester, England. Their single “Me And My Broken Heart” charted across many nations before their debut album was released. Their style is somewhere between genres such as, R&B, Country, and Pop Rock. Their overall sound is somewhat different than other popular artists of the moment. I could even consider it to be alternative rock. They put all that together to come up with something that could be a mainstay in music.
Their debut album is somewhat like an emotional roller coaster. The opening single “Let The Road”, seems to explain what they came to terms with during the trials that inspired the album. As the lead single would suggest, this album goes into detail of heartbreak. By the time the album gets to “Me And My Broken Heart”, the focus shifts from affliction to hope that things may get better. When it comes to heartbreak, that old adage about fish finds its way into the album as well.
It continually brings up how finicky relationships can become. When one pushes, the other pulls. Their mellow approach to explaining the subject makes for an easy listen. Their understanding of it all is basically explained through the last few songs as well. The album ends on somewhat of an emotional sour note, but optimism still makes its way through.
The final song “Whole”, also explains something that will seemingly just have to come be come to terms with. The relationship may be resolute, without a clear resolution. When things broke apart, it fell into things that could not be put together in the same way. Ultimately, letting the road lead the way home seems to be the best way to explain any kind of understanding.
Favorite Songs:
Appreciated – The optimism that they portray rings throughout the album for me. Although it is to someone else, they could implement the same reasoning to make sense of the struggles throughout the album.
Hotel Ceiling – This explains the all-consuming feelings that could come from the aftermath of heartbreak. An attempt to hold on to what was is a way to mask the loneliness. While “staring at the hotel ceiling” the past triumphs seem to become more unattainable.
Me And My Broken Heart – This song introduced me to the band. The explanation for a “kick start” seems to be the only way to bring a sense of normalcy back. The video symbolically showed how one character may take on many disguises and lead them down the same dead end road that brought on the heartbreak.
