The album Contra by Vampire Weekend is brilliant. A total work of art. The first song Horchata reminds me of a computer game I played as a child, it was called 102 Dalmatians: puppies to the rescue. My whole child-hood was about wanting a Dalmatian puppy, not realizing they are terrible pets for children and families. They are not good family dogs. But that song is full of life, and that is the music you WANT to listen to.
The second song is “White Sky”, definitely a song you would want to dance to. “Holiday” is yes that song you have seen on car commercials on TV. “California English” is a personal favorite song of mine. I know the lyrics by heart, and will challenge anyone to a rap battle with that song. I will OWN you haha. “Run” is the next song, definitely a capitalism-hating ballad that I personally love for its heroism. “Cousins” is the song to the opening credits for “The Kids are Alright”, and it’s a good song indeed. “Diplomat’s Son” is the last song on the album and is my favorite song off of this album.
All in all Contra delivers. Although I haven’t ever seen or heard Vampire Weekend live, I have seen the music video for the song “A-punk”, and ever since then I fell in love with the band Vampire Weekend. They are the band that is going to open the credits to my movie about my life with the song “Ottoman”. They uplift my spirits and make me dance in the streets with the song “Unbelievers.” And they have taught me to be myself yet again.
