Interview by: Summer Hartley
Ethan Walls is a Dubstep Producer, DJ,
and follower of Christ who comes out of Winchester, KY. Starting his career
into musicianship around 2 years ago, Ethan pumps out loads of content that
ranges from genre to genre. I asked Ethan a number of questions about himself
and his music, which you can find the answers to below.
Tell
me your name and what you do musically, as well as one fact about yourself.
My name is
Ethan Walls. I produce Dubstep, Drum
and Bass, Trap, Hip Hop, and do studio work and live audio work. One fact about
myself is that I can't think of an interesting fact about myself.
Why
are you a musician? What inspired you to begin making music?
I'm a
musician because God has ordained for me to be just that. I started making
music because I got bored of being a videographer and photographer, so I
decided my art should venture into the sonic realm.
How
long have you been a musician?
I have been a musician for about 2 years.
Sum
up your sound in just 3 words without using a genre.
My sound
in 3 words would be: chaotic, uneducational, beautiful
Are
you involved any other ways in the music scene other than making your own
music? (studio work, other bands, etc.)
I'd like
to say I'm involved with the music scene other than my own music. I do studio
work, and live audio work. Right now I'm recording a concept album with Kenan
Stotts. He's an amazing multi-instrumentalist and this album is looking awesome
thus far.
Do
you perform live/want to perform live at some point?
I do
perform live. I love performing live. Interacting with the crowd is amazing.
Favorite
song of yours?
My
favorite song (right now) is probably "Into Darkness" by Winter.
What
artists most inspire you currently/you currently like?
The
artists that inspire me currently is probably anyone/anything that I listen to.
I am inspired by everything from elevator music to sludge metal to pop punk to
dubstep and everything in between.
Why
should someone unfamiliar with your music check it out?
People
that are unfamiliar with my music should check me out because I'm freaking
cool. Duh. Silly.
Pros
and cons of local KY music scene?
Pros of
the Kentucky music scene: It's small. Cons: It's small.
Any
bands/artists you would love to collab with? (local or famous)
I would love to collab with Skrillex,
Paramore, I See Stars, Periphery, and Macintosh Plus.
Generally
how long does it take for you to perfect a song?
I don't
know if songs are ever "perfected." When the wall of diminished
return is hit, I call it a day.
What
is coming up in the future for you? (Working on music, release of an album,
promotion, etc.)
Beautiful
Chaos is coming up and releasing July 14th, it's a 20 track album that I've
been working on for quite some time now. It has collaborations with This
Present Darkness, Liz Miller, Jack McKrywyn, and a few others. I'm going to be
playing more live shows soon, so keep a lookout for announcements on those
things.
What
is your spirit animal?
My spirit animal is a Swamp Booger.
Any
final words?
Final words? Probably "You won't shoot me!"
And
to close, give me one pet peeve.
One pet
peeve of mine is when females be trippin'.
